A vote to Refreshā€¦

ā€œI believe the Studentsā€™ Union isā€¦ a [place] for students to be able to talk equally with the college, an organization that cares for students, and every studentā€™s representative. This is something thatā€¦ students of [all schools desire]; the Studentsā€™ Union needs to be working to engage students with the college and have the studentsā€™ voices heard. I will be able to stand up to the collegeā€¦ because I know I will be working with the support and understanding of the student body, through my engagements and talks with students.ā€ ā€”Ā Brandon Eyre, candidate for College Relations Coordinator

ā€œStudents at the David Lam campus deserve more! I will fight to make your experience at Douglas affordable, bring long-needed attention and representation back to our campus and our students, and promote your voice. I will fight [by] you to bring events for students at the David Lam campus, and increase the variety of events being held.ā€ ā€”Ā Kevin Taki, candidate for David Lam Campus Coordinator

ā€œAs an international student, I truly understand the importance of receiving a good education while also understanding studentsā€™ financial struggle to obtain [such an education]. I see education as ourā€¦ most powerful tool to change the world and ourselves. Student[s] should not have this right taken from them. Iā€™ll do whatever is in my power to make our voices heard not only within campus, but also [on] a provincial and federal level.ā€ ā€” Clarissa Fragoso Pinheiro, candidate for External Relations Coordinator

ā€œI feel very passionate about the Studentsā€™ Union and feel itā€™s a great tool for fostering a positive college environment, but in its current state [the DSU] is being under-utilized. With my team I will fight to improve the representations students have in their union and provide members with the tools to have their voices heard.ā€ ā€” Colin Davies, candidate for Treasurer

ā€œIā€™ve been involved in the pride community since I was [12] years old. My personal values are around building community and anti-oppression work, and I am extremely passionate and dedicated to working with the queer and trans community. Iā€™m running for pride liaison so we can build the pride community at Douglas. I would like us to focus on more events and continue to make the pride room a safe and accessible place for students to come and hang out.ā€ ā€” Aliza Bosa, candidate for Pride Liaison

ā€œFor the past year I have been heavily involved on campus, I know the school and the students, and [the] DSU will be the next progressive step. Most importantly, Refresh will bring transparency; who we are, what we do, how we do it. These are all things that will be for all students to know and understand, and hopefully be a part of.ā€ā€” Aran Armultu, candidate for Member-at-Large

ā€œI amā€¦ the current DSU aboriginal liaison, [and] I am quite active with this position, promoting events and campaigns [that] engage both students and faculty. I am running in this election for member-at-large and I am looking forward to continue working with and for the students, faculty, and community. I will continue in representing you, promoting your voice, and working on making your time as a Douglas College student a memorable one.ā€ ā€” Sonia Keshane, candidate for Member-at-Large

ā€œJust because we are at a college and not a university doesnā€™t mean that we have to settle for second-rate representation or second-rate services. A womenā€™s centre or an aboriginal centre that operates in a space slightly smaller than a parking lot is not acceptable for campuses that serve nearly 20,000 students, nor [is] a library that operates at hours that do not adequately serve the needs of the populace. We can change this if we work collectively.ā€ ā€” Rodney Stehr, candidate for Member-at-Large
