Preparing gifts for your Valentine

By Chitwan Khosla, Features Editor

It’s the time of the year when we are anxious to make our Valentine’s Day special. Planning a perfect dinner date, deciding on a special gift, and buying a card or a bouquet—all this will sound familiar if you have someone special for V-Day. We could all use some suggestions and ideas to help Cupid hit the right spot, so here’s a quick guide to avoid anything going wrong and to make this V-Day a special chapter in your tale of love.

To begin with, decide on your budget. You should know how much you’re willing to spend. Then make a list of things you can potentially buy with that amount. I strongly suggest to either search online or go window shopping at the nearest malls a few days before making the list. This will provide you with some ideas about what is in stores and what to expect for your budget. While love mugs, photo frames, bouquets, perfume, and stuffed animals are classic, keep in mind you should not only buy what your partner might like but also what might be useful for them.

Next, look for the deals or offers. You might find some great packages on Groupon or LivingSocial, with nights out or gifts that your partner will love. If there is anything you both like doing together like skating, swimming, or cycling, don’t miss the opportunity.

If you can’t decide on what to buy, why not create it? Make a gift for your partner. They’re sure to love it if you even try. Bake a cake or cookies, or make them a nice dinner. You can make some love coupons for your partner: take some coloured paper sheets, cut them into coupon-sized small cards, write whatever deal you can offer them, and mention when they can redeem the coupon. Write something like a 10-minute kiss, a hot steamy dance, a dinner date, sex on the beach—this can not only make the coupons a creative gift, but you can spice up your love and sex life. To complement the coupons, you can make a card and some homemade chocolates.

In the end, just relax and enjoy yourself this Valentine’s Day. Your love can’t be measured with gifts. You just need to express your feelings. A passionate kiss (go for a naughty French one) can make any night special. Grab some ice cream or coffee and go for a walk, or cuddle on your couch and watch a movie together. Do whatever you like but spend some quality time together. V-Day is for love and not for gifts. Look into your partner’s eyes and say a soulful “I love you.” This will never go wrong. Celebrate the most beautiful thing in the world: love!
