The Royal City

By Dale Pereira, Contributor

A jewel amid the rivers

Arising to command

But Douglas chose Victoria

And so the story goes.

New Westminster is ancient past

Says the critics oh so rash

But eyes discerning would behold

A timeless beauty under-told.

Beneath the sorrow and the shame

A legacy far greater still remains

A story that is reminiscent of our past

Of a hero that takes command at last.

Hidden and enshrouded, yet mighty in glory

New Westminster, like us, may seem ordinary

Yet behind the scenes, we sway the scepter

For our throne is that of the future.

And so our heritage is not lost,

but ingrained in us farther across.

For in our hearts we know

There’s something royal about this city.
