May contain traces of nuts? Who cares?!

âYes, I have a nut allergy. And no, Iâm not careful about it,â said Cindy Duvall, 26. âI donât let my possibly fatal nut allergy rule my life.â
The brave young woman spoke out about her carefree lifestyle at a press conference last Thursday.
âJust because eating a pastry at a coffee shop could end up with me cold, dead, and in a coffin, it doesnât mean I have to monitor what I eat or drink,â said Duvall. âI donât choose to live my life that way.â
âShe should absolutely live her life that way,â Reena Davis, a family health practitioner of over 20 years, told Other Press reporters. âAbout one percent of people in North America have a nut allergy. Theyâre very common, and a side effect can be, well, death.â
âSome people smoke. I donât check the ingredient list on a box of cookies,â Duvall said. âThatâs just how I roll.â
Duvall, who at the time was wearing a black leather jacket and causally flipping a granola bar that said âMAY CONTAIN TRACES OF NUTS AND TREE NUTSâ in the ingredient list between her fingers, urges all those with nut allergies to adopt her carefree lifestyle.
âI used to be just like everyone else who couldnât break down the proteins found in certain nuts and legumes. I would obsessively freak out and double-check with the waiter that my salad didnât have any cashews on top. Now, I breeze through life and simply use the âitchy tongue method.â Thatâs where I eat a bite of something, wait for a minute, and keep throwing that food down the hatch if I donât feel my throat closing up. Iâve only had three reactions this year so far!â
Other people were joining Duvallâs cause. âIâve been allergic to nuts for my entire life,â said Randy McArthur, 47. âI used to think I would outgrow it, but every single year without fail I would somehow ingest a walnut in somebodyâs carrot cake, and Iâd blow up like a balloon. Thanks to Cindy, Iâve been living my best life. I eat what I want, when I want, and I deal with the consequences after, when Iâm already losing consciousness. Who even needs walnuts in carrot cake? Everybodyâs just there for the cream cheese icing!â
âI urge everybody who is joining Cindyâs cause to reconsider,â Davis said. âAnaphylaxis is a serious condition and shouldnât be treated lightly, no matter how cool it looks to not care about your nerdy nut allergy.â
âI might go to a vegan restaurant after this and have a bite of a muffin,â Duvall said to a shocked crowd. âMaybe a bite of pesto. Who knows? The world is my nut-covered oyster.â
